No more excuses not to drag ourselves up from the wake of winter and festivities – time to be ruthless and edit your rooms of ‘old’ and ‘last year’.
Remember fresh start! Begin by eliminating the heavy textures and colours, room by room. In bedrooms for example, you may Introduce lighter coloured bed linens, white towels, and fresher scented candles. Try moving some of the smaller pieces of occasional furniture to different rooms, for instance the deep coloured upholstered stool might now look better in one of the least used rooms than the daytime rooms.
I like to move the smaller rugs around the house – just for a change. Perhaps, too, re-visit your wall space and see if there are still un-hung pictures lurking about.
There are so many positive changes one can make and more often than not, it just requires a bit of imagination, conviction and a weekend or two.
By putting love and attention to your personal space you will be happier and you will enhance the way you and your family enjoy your home.
Here are some extra tips for the coming Spring:
Introduce beautiful scents in your rooms for indeed a beautiful can not be truly beautiful unless it smells divine. There are several ways you could do this. There are reed diffusers, candles and room sprays for any situation. One of my all-time favourite is Durance, a French brand that has developed a great following with our clients. The range is made by master perfumers in Grasse and they are on the whole delicate and the simple packaging is unobtrusive and classic. I am so in love with the Jasmin but I also love Cotton Flower, White Tea and Poppy.
Bring in fresh-cut flowers and put them in small vases to bring in a breath of freshness. Small vases also lessen the chore factor of maintaining them.
I believe that change in our surroundings is often a catalyst for change within ourselves. For instance, an uncluttered surrounding can make us happier and less overwhelmed giving us a chance to focus on ‘project me’. This might also offer opportunities to start a new hobby, or to inspire us spring clean our cupboards and wardrobes? There sure is plenty to do to improve our state of affairs, so go on open those windows and let the fresh air in!
